2018 Ringing

The placing of a small ring on chicks and adult birds enable us to learn more about the life cycle of our barn owls and also their movements. We apply rings to adult birds whenever we find unringed birds during our nest inspections and we expect ringing of 2018 chicks to start around late May.

In 2017 we discovered that some of the ringed barn owls had dispersed over far greater distances than previous knowledge had ever considered likely, so it will be interesting to see what 2018 reveals for us.
